UNDECIDED (Urban-Breaks, Sango Music, Sacramento)

For this week’s Jungo Road excursion, DJ and producer Undecided does not waffle one bit; delivering a wicked tearout party mix of proper nuskool breaks with a peppering of fidget house. We almost met up with him at LovEvolution but missed each other; him hanging with the Janky barge crew and giving big ups. So, we kept in touch and can now bring you his mix and feature.

Undecided, also known as Chris Shelton, grew up when raves were making a huge impact on the music scene. A time when video’s by Prodigy and Daft Punk were getting air play on MTV. He remembers a buddy of his, Skinny Dave, did a report on house music when they were in middle school. He says Dave can single handedly take responsibility for exposing him to electronic music. Back then, he had no idea what it was. But, he hit some raves and soon decided he wanted to DJ.

With no music background at all, Undecided somehow convinced his parents to buy him gear. Of himself back then he says, “Call me spoiled cause it’s true.” In the same breath he also gives props, “I owe a lot to my friends that helped me to get started DJing and the old crews that I used to run with.”

That brings us to our interview with him. Undecided has a great sense of humor. Enjoy it and the mix he made for us all!

When did you start DJing?
I started DJing many moons ago in a year called 1998. I DJ’d poorly. In 2000, I DJ’d less poorly. (laughs) Then in 2002, I formed the Urban-Breaks crew which hosted monthly and weekly breaks parties in and around Sacramento. I also lived in Seattle for a year which was good for us. We brought on board lots of talented DJs and produced show after show.

What do you like about DJing?
I love playing music I like and seeing people react to it. I love to be on stage dancing along with the people in the crowd. I liked that it helped me score a super hot wife. I like being out and about at parties and drinking and talking to new people. I get up there and play whatever I think will sound good next. If I am not up there having fun, how can I expect them to? I wouldn’t rather be doing anything else.

(Laugh) So what music are you known for?
Das breaks! It may have it’s moments when it not as commercially acceptable, but, it is what motivates me to drop my bass face.

What do you like or moves you most in electronic dance music?
I love good house music and I love a good breaks track. But, what I am feeling the most at the moment is mid-tempo and glitch-hop. I help run a glitch based site called Glitch.FM and can occasionally be found playing a house set in The Basement.

What about other types of music?
I love funk. 70’s funk is my weakness. Something about the rhythm and the soul gets me grooving.

You produce your own music too. How and when did that start?
2005 is when I started to gain more interest and start to take it more seriously. I have no training at all. I have had inspiration from friends that I owe a lot to for bugging them over the years. I also have quite a bit of admiration for the producers that have helped me learn the ways of production. There are a lot of nice guys and gals out there that are willing to give up some of their time to help you when you are in need. So big ups to them.

What was your first release you considered a success?
My first record! It was 2005 and my production partner Kiro and I sat down in the Infected Logic Studio and out came Kiro Vs. Undecided Obsessive Nature feat. Six Kitten B. [Ed. note: Six Kitten B is Undecided's wife.] Mob Records, out of the UK, released it and a remix by The Rogue Element. Most of the success was due to Kiro being an excellent engineer and teacher.

What was your next big one?
We remixed Trona’s Bulletproof on System Recordings. I really had to step up my game and I’m really excited to see what the feedback is going to look like on my upcoming tunes including a remix for Myagi’s new label Pop N Lock.

Do you have any other collaborations?
Yea. I’m part of The Bassmasons with Komega & Mzo doing tear out breaks and Trouser Snakes w/ Dick Jesus doing house.

Tell us about one gig that really makes you smile.
It was a New Year’s party and The Bassmason’s were opening up for Meat Beat Manifesto at a spot called Otherworld in Oakland. The people were going ape shit and the party was rockin’ through and through. Not the best venue I have been to, but still one of my most memorable gigs.

What other tracks are you about to release? Any last words?
Lots of good tracks.

Undecided – Vibe Check Feat. Nibu [Unsigned]

Undecided – Yo Son! [Unsigned]

 <itunes:summary>UNDECIDED (Urban-Breaks, Sango Music, Sacramento)

For this week's Jungo Road excursion, DJ and producer Undecided does not waffle one bit; delivering a wicked tearout party mix of proper nuskool breaks with a peppering of fidget house.

Of himself back then he says, "Call me spoiled cause it's true." In the same breath he also gives props, "I owe a lot to my friends that helped me to get started DJing and the old crews that I used to run with."

That brings us to our interview with him. Undecided has a great sense of humor. Enjoy it and the mix he made for us all!

[Ed. note: Six Kitten B is Undecided's wife.] Mob Records, out of the UK, released it and a remix by The Rogue Element. Most of the success was due to Kiro being an excellent engineer and teacher.

What was your next big one?
We remixed Trona's Bulletproof on System Recordings. I really had to step up my game and I'm really excited to see what the feedback is going to look like on my upcoming tunes including a remix for Myagi’s new label Pop N Lock.
