Scott Cooper’s take on Chad North vs Aaron Pope “The Grind” is nothing short of spectacular summer-time dancehall-fidget house. When Erase announced he was on the short list of remixers we knew we were in for something special. This is as fresh as it gets folks… You can hear Scott’s remix here first exclusively as it kicks off his May 2009 DJ set. Fans of that special West coast “Stompy Sunset Sound” (for those in the know) are in for a special treat with this mix.

Cooper blends jackin’ electronic house with eclectic influences of hip-house, ragga and dancehall. His diverse spin on the underground sound has made him a less predictable—but always rowdy—addition to the Potty Mouth Music roster. His remixes for Erase and other labels share this quality – with recent standout takes on Rockwell D, Philipe De Boyar, Stama, and AC Slater.

Cooper channeled his classically trained guitar skills into electronic music, taking early influence from Sasha, Lee Burridge, Craig Richards and the breaks of DJ Hyper. London-based DJ Jon Carter further influenced his production with a fusion of ragga vocals and old-school samples with house music and broken beats. His diversity would become the cannon for a sound he would develop at Nottingham’s prestigious Confetti Studios.

In the past 10 years, Cooper has honed his skills on the decks and in the studio, collaborating with artists such as Jak Z, and Balie funk MC Edu-K. Cooper’s breakthrough “Hanging with Mr. Cooper EP” released in early 2008 on Lee Mortimer’s Wearhouse Music showcased his signature mix of electro, dancehall and breaks. The artist takes these influences even further with his  “Natty Jack EP,” on Wearhouse, which includes remixes by Potty Mouth Music artists HiJack and Heavy Feet.

“I’d describe my style as all-embracing in the way that I like to get a lot of different sounds and make sense of them in both my productions and my DJ sets,” Cooper says. The self-proclaimed serial collaborator of late still finds time to work with other artists while also making time to tweak his own twisted sound.

Cooper frequently tours North America (where his standout label Potty Mouth is based) and is a fixture at Ibiza and WMC. He has held a previous residency at Digital in Lincoln and is a current resident of the monthly Moda event which Potty mouth’s Andy George runs along with fellow Lincoln based DJs Jaymo and Ingo Staar.

We continue our focus on Erase artists/DJs this week with two more heavyweights in the UK scene: Erase label manager Stama (aka Wasabi) and frequent Erase records remixer Scott Cooper (Potty Mouth, UK).

Stama is label manager, A/R, DJ, and producer for his breaks and dirty house label Erase Records. Erase has risen to prominence in the past several years on the back of stellar releases from artists including The Bulgarian, Rektchordz, Introspective, Miles Dyson, Pro7, Doc Trashz, William Marshall, Anarchy Rice, Chad North vs Aaron Pope, Rob Reng, Philipe De Bayar, Lars Moston, Karl Sav, Signal Drivers, Beauty School, Jono Fernandez, Electric Soulside, Klaus Hill, Scott Cooper, Stone Lions, Zimbardo & Zigmund Slezak and Stama’s own act Wasabi.
