AARON POPE (Erase Records, SF)
“Dance music is all about drawing energy out of people in a positive way.” This is Aaron Pope’s belief, and that’s what most people remember about his DJ sets – his incredible energy. A longtime music fan and dance floor resident, Aaron brings this joy and love of music behind the decks with him, and at every gig he is constantly dancing and interacting with the crowd.
“There’s so much great music out there, it’s silly to confine yourself to just one genre. Each crowd deserves its own unique experience, and nobody wants to listen to the same type of sound hour after hour. The challenge is to keep the groove, while continuing to surprise and delight.” Aaron’s Dj sets encompass many styles, including house, breaks, electro, dubstep; even funky mid-tempo if the occasion demands.
Currently living in San Francisco, Aaron Pope has been a professional DJ for ten years. He has played at almost every venue in San Francisco, for a wide range of promoters. He was also the first resident DJ and booking manager for the infamous Deep End at Burning Man, an event many consider to be the world’s best party. His gigs have taken him to New York, Miami and Chicago, Brazil, the Caribbean and Ibiza. He has spun alongside the likes of Roger Sanchez, The Chemical Brothers, Jo Mills, Derrick Carter, Felix the Housecat, Scumfrog, The Breakfastaz, DJ Dan, Lee Coombs, D-Fuse, Adam Freeland, Nick Thayer, Stanton Warriors, Lorin (Bassnectar) and Freq Nasty.
Some career DJ highlights:
- In the summer of 2004 achieved a personal goal of his, to play on the Terrace at Space in Ibiza
- In 2004 Aaron also won Scion’s DJ of the year award
- In 2005, 2006 and 2007 he was voted one of San Francisco’s top 20 DJ’s in Nitevibe’s DreamTeam poll
– In 2006 was voted “Best San Francisco DJ” in the Bay Guardian’s reader poll
